Wild Child: Kolo Cat’s Jungle Hideaway
One glass-walled treehouse, one very unbothered cat, and a whole lot of canopy
Some cats chase the city lights. Kolo Cat chases the canopy. Deep in a rainforest villa where the walls are more glass than concrete and the “skyline” is a wall of palm fronds arguing with the morning sun, our newest feature spent the day proving that the wildest sets aren’t built — they’re grown. No backdrop, no studio rig, just one round wooden window doing its best impression of a porthole into the jungle, a bed the size of a small country, and a cat who treats both like her personal playground.
This wasn’t a shoot so much as a series of very good decisions caught mid-motion — a stretch here, a somersault there, legs in the air because why not when you’ve got that much ceiling to work with. Kolo doesn’t hold a pose so long as she detonates one and moves straight to the next, all black lace and jungle light, completely unbothered by gravity, decorum, or the general concept of sitting still.
The Shoot
The villa did most of the heavy lifting — soaring ceilings, a wall of glass sliding doors, and that impossible round window that turns every frame into something out of a treehouse fever dream. Morning light came in low and gold, catching every tattoo, every curve of black lace, every little half-second of chaos as Kolo turned the bed into a launchpad. One minute she’s diving across the mattress mid-air like she’s got somewhere better to be; the next she’s upside down with her legs straight up at the ceiling, laughing at her own audacity.
No two frames feel the same, and that’s the whole point. This is a cat who treats a photoshoot like recess: full sprint one second, catlike stillness the next, back arched against a doorframe just long enough to make the whole jungle look like it’s holding its breath too.
The Interview
Let’s get right into it — mid-air dive onto the bed. Whose idea was that?
Mine, obviously. Nobody hands a cat that much bed and expects her to just… lie there politely. I saw the space, I saw the light, and my body just went “we’re doing a stunt now.” No regrets, minor bruise, worth it.
The villa is basically a treehouse. What was it like shooting somewhere that green?
Unreal. Every time I looked up there was another palm frond trying to get in the shot with me. I kept forgetting to pose because I was too busy staring out the window like an idiot. Ten out of ten, would get distracted by nature again.
Legs straight up at the ceiling in that one shot — how does a cat even find that pose?
Honestly? Boredom and flexibility. I was upside down before I even decided to be upside down. Once you’re a cat you kind of just… end up in weird shapes. It’s involuntary at this point.
Black lace, jungle light — was that the mood you were going for?
One hundred percent. Something about being surrounded by that much green makes you want to wear the darkest thing in your suitcase, just to be difficult. It worked. I looked like trouble. I felt like trouble.
Any wildlife make a cameo during the shoot?
A suspicious number of birds heckling me from that window the whole time. No comment on whether they were judging my form.
Last one. Rooftop, desert, poolside villa — now the jungle. Where’s Kolo headed next?
Wherever there’s a good window and nobody telling me to hold still. Jungle’s got my whole heart now though. I’d move in tomorrow if the wifi were better.
